The Warblers Who Dodged Tornadoes

Here we show the light logger locations of five golden-winged warblers between 27 April and 2 May 2014. That same week, a tornado outbreak swept across the southeastern United States. When Henry Streby, a postdoctoral fellow with the University of Tennessee analysed the tracking data, he noticed that the songbirds fled their breeding grounds two days before the storms hit. Something had warned them.
